We Fly Further So You Don't Have To

We are a team of certified pilots, imaging specialists, and data professionals dedicated to delivering the best aerial work in the UK.

Our Story

Eight Years of Flying Higher

DroneMaster was founded in 2018 by James Thornton, a commercial pilot and aerial film specialist who saw that UK businesses were being underserved by a fragmented drone market — characterised by hobbyist operators with consumer-grade equipment and little understanding of professional commercial requirements. His ambition was straightforward: build a drone services company that operated to aviation-industry standards and delivered output that could stand alongside broadcast aerial production.

The company launched in London with a focus on residential and commercial real estate photography. The timing proved fortuitous — estate agents were rapidly discovering that aerial imagery transformed their listings, and DroneMaster quickly established a reputation for reliability, image quality, and the kind of professional conduct that put property vendors and agents at ease. Within the first year, several major London agencies had made DroneMaster their preferred drone supplier.

From that real estate foundation, the business expanded methodically into construction inspection, survey and mapping, events coverage, and thermal imaging. Each new service was entered only once the team had the right qualifications, equipment, and workflows to deliver to the same standard as the services already on offer. Growth was deliberate, not opportunistic.

Today, DroneMaster operates a network of over 50 CAA-certified pilots across England, Scotland, and Wales. We have completed more than 500 commercial projects for clients ranging from individual estate agents to FTSE-listed construction companies and government infrastructure departments. The company is headquartered in London with operational bases in Manchester, Bristol, Edinburgh, and Cardiff, enabling rapid deployment anywhere in the UK.

What has not changed since 2018 is the founding principle: every client, every project, every flight deserves the best we can deliver. That principle drives every hire we make, every equipment investment, and every training programme our pilots complete. It is not a marketing slogan — it is how we operate.

What Drives Us

Our Values

These four principles inform every decision we make — from which equipment we invest in to how we communicate with clients when something goes wrong.

Safety First

Every flight begins with a rigorous pre-flight risk assessment. We never cut corners on safety procedures, no matter how tight the deadline or how straightforward the location appears. Our safety culture protects our clients, the public, and our pilots.

Precision in Everything

From the accuracy of a survey dataset to the composition of a single photograph, precision is the standard we hold ourselves to. We do not settle for 'good enough' — we push for the exact result the project demands.

Transparent Pricing

Our quotes are detailed and honest. You will always know exactly what you are paying for and why. There are no hidden fees, no surprise add-ons, and no ambiguity — just clear, fair pricing that reflects the genuine value we deliver.

Exceptional Results

Good is not the goal — exceptional is. We invest in industry-leading equipment, continuous pilot training, and post-production expertise so that every deliverable reflects the quality standard DroneMaster is known for.

The People Behind the Flights

Our Team

DroneMaster is built on expertise. Every member of the leadership team brings deep, specialist knowledge that directly shapes the quality of work we deliver.

James Thornton

CEO & Founder

James founded DroneMaster in 2018 after a decade in commercial aviation and aerial film production. He holds CAA GVC and PfCO certifications and has personally overseen more than 300 commercial flights. His vision was to bring broadcast-grade aerial production values to everyday commercial clients — and that mission remains the company's north star today.

Priya Mehta

Lead Pilot & Head of Operations

With over 1,200 logged flight hours across diverse environments — from London rooftops to Scottish highlands — Priya is DroneMaster's most experienced pilot in command. She manages flight scheduling, airspace authorisation, and operational safety for every project. Priya holds the CAA A2 CofC, GVC, and an advanced thermal imaging qualification.

Daniel Okafor

Head of Post-Production

Daniel leads DroneMaster's editing and colour-grading suite. A former broadcast colourist with credits across BBC and Channel 4 documentary productions, he brings a cinematic eye to every project. His team processes raw footage and imagery into polished, client-ready deliverables within the tight 24–48 hour turnaround DroneMaster is known for.

Sarah Llewellyn

Operations Manager

Sarah keeps DroneMaster running smoothly behind the scenes. She manages client relationships, project scheduling, equipment maintenance logistics, and compliance documentation. Her meticulous attention to detail ensures nothing falls through the cracks — from the first client enquiry to final delivery sign-off.

Our Fleet

Equipment & Technology

DroneMaster operates one of the most capable commercial drone fleets in the UK. Our primary platforms are the DJI Matrice series — rugged, professional-grade multi-rotor aircraft engineered for commercial operations in demanding conditions. The Matrice 350 RTK forms the backbone of our survey and inspection work, offering precise GPS positioning, wind resistance up to 15 m/s, and a redundant power architecture that maintains flight safety in the event of single-component failure.

For photography and videography, we deploy aircraft carrying the DJI Zenmuse X7 and X9 camera systems — the same cinema-grade imaging technology trusted by professional film crews worldwide. The Zenmuse X9-8K captures raw aerial footage at a resolution most clients have simply never seen from a drone. Combined with our DJI Ronin stabilisation technology, the result is glass-smooth footage free of the vibration artefacts that plague consumer drone video.

Our thermal inspection fleet uses the DJI Zenmuse H20T — a hybrid sensor combining a radiometric thermal camera, a 20MP wide camera, and a 23× optical zoom into a single gimbal payload. This multi-sensor approach means our thermal inspection pilots capture standard and thermal imagery simultaneously, giving clients a comprehensive picture of any anomaly detected.

For mapping and surveying, our aircraft carry ground control point (GCP) infrastructure and RTK GPS modules that deliver centimetre-level horizontal and vertical accuracy. All survey data is processed in Pix4Dmapper and Pix4Dfields, the industry-standard photogrammetry software trusted by engineers, land surveyors, and environmental scientists globally. Output formats include GeoTIFF orthomosaics, LAS point clouds, DXF contour files, and Shapefile vectorised boundaries — ready for import into any GIS or CAD platform.

Every aircraft in the DroneMaster fleet is maintained on a documented service schedule, with pre-flight checks logged digitally for every mission. We do not fly equipment that is not airworthy — full stop.
